Domaine des Ouled Thaleb Syrocco Syrah (750ml)

The grapes are grown in the Atlantic-influenced hills of Morocco’s Zenata region, in the lee of the Middle Atlas Mountains to the west.  This wine is produced at the modern winery of Thalvin, not far from the city of Casablanca.   The idea for Syrocco was born while Alain Graillot was vacationing in the country.  He noted how the terroir of this region mirrored his own vineyards in the Northern Rhone.  Syrocco is made from selected parcels of organic, old-vine Syrah that undergoes a moderate amount of extraction; ultimately made in an old world French style.  The moderately cool climate, fresh ocean breezes, the altitude of 500m combined with the soils (red and black clay over a base of limestone and ancient ocean bed remnants) provides ideal growing conditions for crafting beautifully scented, juicy Syrah. 

The fun label depicts Alain and his wife riding a bicycle which is a nod to their story of discovering the vineyard land and thinking up this winemaking plan while vacationing in Morocco.  Sadly, Alain Graillot passed away in March 2022, while on a ski vacation at a vibrant 77 years of age.
