Château de Saint Cosme is a leading estate in the southern Rhone appellation of Gigondas and their wines are considered by many to be the best of the appellation. The property has been in the hands of the Barruol family since the 1490s. In 1992 Louis Barruol took the estate over from his father and shifted the viticulture practices with strict focus on quality and converted to biodynamics in 2010.
Tasting Notes
Fragrant and brigh. Pronounced raspberry and boysenberry aromas with a juicy and fruit forward palate. The flavours are bright and pure; notes of aromatic dried herbs and violet, tobacco, tea, cherry, black olive. Racy acidity and graphite-laced minerality on the finish. This fruity, savoury and herbal blend will compliment duck, stews with fresh herbs, lean grilled meats and even oily fish with herbs.
Method
A blend of 60% Grenache Noir and 40% Pinot Noir fermented in and matured in concrete tanks. Micro-Cosme Rouge carries the Vin de France designation due to its unique production method. The wine is made from blending wines from multiple vintages in concrete tanks starting with the 1999 vintage.
