Worthy Park is an estate steeped with a rich history dating all the way back to 1670. The land was originally gifted to Francis Price for his service during the English capture of the island from the Spanish in 1655. First planted with cacao trees; a terrible blight left the estate bare to replant with sugar cane. The first record of rum being produced was in 1741 and production steadily continued while passing through different owners until the 1960s. Post WW2, the Jamaican Government took action to stop the over production of rum, coming to an agreement with Worthy Park- who stepped down and ceased distilling. Fortunately, in 2005 production began again after a 45 hiatus. Worthy Park proudly presents estate grown, aged and bottled rums.
Tasting Notes
From the distillery: “A natural light amber colour; the nose is punchy with upfront aromas of tobacco and toasted oak with spicy fruit- raisins and plums. With time light notes of vanilla become evident. On the mouth luscious and tropical fruits with with a soft, buttery and almost creamy texture. Dry and slightly bitter, soft tannins are rounded out by toasted oak and nutmeg. A hint of black pepper finished off with a touch of ginger as it lingers with its soft, dry finish.”
Method
The flagship product from Worthy Park is a beautiful blend of copper pot-still rum’s creating a high ester spirit with a bit of fruity funk to it from various yeast strains added. This rum is aged 6-10 years in former bourbon barrels creating a complex and unique tasting experience for any rum drinker.
