Game Day Drinks: Our Top MVPs For Your Superbowl Party

Confession time: as a team, the staff at here Bishop’s Cellar are pretty split on our feelings about football. We’ve got some die-hard fans and some…not so much. Despite that, Super Bowl Sunday is something we can all get behind! Football lover or not- what’s better than a day lazing on the couch with tasty snacks and even tastier beverages? Super Bowl food is delicious, crowd-pleasing and fun to eat. We think your beverages should be the same.

Everyone knows that beer is a great choice for game day and we are beyond lucky here in Nova Scotia to have amazing craft beer flowing from every corner of our fair province. Our fridge at the shop is stocked to the brim with delicious, local favourites from the likes of Garrison, Propeller, Boxing Rock, North Brewing, Uncle Leo’s, and many more. Plus, we’ve got 5 rotating taps for filling growlers with delicious craft beer!

If you really want to shake things up this year, why not try pairing some flavourful wines with your Super Bowl snacks? We’re open until midnight Friday and Saturday nights so let our friendly store staff help you find the perfect bottle for the big day.

In the meantime, here are a few wine, craft beer and spirits suggestions (in no particular order) to get your taste buds in shape:

Anchor IPA– An American classic, this beer is full of complex aromas, spiky bitterness, malty depth, and a clean finish. This timeless craft IPA is a crowd pleaser- plus it’s on sale right now!

Evil Twin Yang Imperial IPA– Strong, hoppy IPA styles like this are beer’s answer to spicy food. Serve this robust and malty brew alongside samosas, jalapeno poppers and spicy sauces.

Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout– Who needs dessert when you’ve got a chocolate stout like this one? This beer achieves its dark chocolate aroma and flavor through the artful blending of six malts and months of aging. Drink alone or with dessert for a sweet treat.

Massottina Prosecco – Fancy up your deep fried food with a sparkling wine that helps cut the salt and fat in your favourite snacks!

Benjamin Bridge Tidal Bay – This off-dry white wine from Nova Scotia is perfect for anything spicy. We love it with pad thai and appetizers with an Asian twist.

Hegarty Open Now – The name says it all! Great price, biodynamic, and a very cool blend. This one will be dynamite with sausages or pulled pork.

Borgo Scopeto Chianti Classico – You can never go wrong with Chianti and pizza, it’s a classic for a reason!

Diplomatico Exclusiva 12 YO Rum – Celebrate the best with the best.

So, how about you? What are you planning to eat and drink this Sunday? Share your pairings with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!
