Talisker hails from the austere and rugged Isle of Skye in North Western Scotland and boasts all of the expected coastal characteristics of an Island Malt. Talisker was one of Diageo’s original six Classic Malts along with Cragganmore, Dalwhinnie, Glenkinchie, Lagavulin, and Oban. Despite it’s relatively remote location, Talisker is Diageo’s most visited distillery and is reputed to be the favourite drink of Robert Louis Stevenson. Talisker’s sea-inspired style makes it an absolute must try for single malt fans – a true maritimer and a true classic.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of smoked kippers with lemon juice, honey, roasted nuts and heaps of salt water spray are obvious on the nose. A little more smoked bacon, caramelized nuts, and lemon zest show up on the palate and the finish echoes with crushed sea shells and gentle puffs of bonfire smoke.
Method
Double distilled then aged for a minimum of 10 Years in American oak barrels. Bottled at 45.8%.
Our Thoughts
Nose: Waxy wood on the nose, flower stems and sweet cooked fruit.
Palate: Dark chocolate and citrus; round, lush mouthfeel. Baked orange peels and smoke on the finish.

I got this in 2021 and thoroughly enjoyed it for six months or so. Not quite as striking in its flavour as some more expensive ones, but not overpowering as some can be either. I once spent three times this much on a bottle that was not as nice as this one. I will gladly buy it again, even though its gone up considerably in the past year; it is still a reasonable price for a such a nice scotch. It’s a fun bonus that it comes from a sparsely populated island way up in the Scottish highlands, something I muse about as I sip it.
