“Rafale” wines are made by the Vignerons Catalans, a “Cave Cooperative” from Perpignan in Roussillon.
Vignerons Catalans is a producers’ group whose mission is to establish, grow and secure recognition for Roussillon wines in France and abroad. The group brings together men and women who have a strong bond with its history, values and roots. Both passionate and visionary wine growers with a strong community spirit. As a leading company on the Roussillon wine scene, they champion the values of the co-operative movement and the strong identity of wine regions in Catalan country. Roussillon is a small region that is home to myriad, outstanding terroirs, a sunny climate, warm weather and wind exposure conducive to wine growing. The geological tapestry into which the vineyards are woven enables Les Vignerons Catalans to produce a richly-endowed range of wines. They work with over 1500 growers covering 10 000 hectares in 15 different Roussillon appellations.
These wines are named after the Rafale winds that frequently blow in this region. The emblem shows the rooster on the church tower, which indicates the wind direction.
Tasting Notes
This has all the fresh crispness one is looking for in a Sauvignon Blanc. Aromas of boxwood, cut grass and gooseberries carry onto a light bodied and clean palate. Enjoy this wine on its own or sip alongside a salad, seafood, fried fish dishes, light pasta dishes or chicken.
Method
Made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown on gentle slopes of clay limestone soil in the Roussillon region. Here the vines benefit from optimal diurnal variation; warmer days and cool evenings. The grapes are harvested at night to preserve freshness and primary fruit notes. A short maceration in absence of oxygen before fermentation in stainless steel.
