Meinklang is biodynamic family run farmstead located in East Austria. They are nestled in the middle of the World Heritage Site of the National Park Neusiedlersee, on the Eastern side of the Neusiedlersee Lake, bordering directly on the Hungarian lowlands, where life’s diversity and complexity are celebrated. They grow mixed crops; grapes for wine production, fruit crops, flowers, ancient grains. They also have a herd of Angus and Aubrac cattle, which provide natural fertilizer for the land, and are represented on the wine’s labels.
Tasting Notes
Medium bodied with lots of juicy red fruit and a slight peppery spiciness. This is a thirst-quenching red that will pair well with a range of foods. Some pairing suggestions are roast or friend chicken, tuna steak or pork chops.
Method
A blend of Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and Saint-Laurent. The grapes grow on sandy loam with a shallow rocky top-soil. Hand harvested and partially destemmed, put into stainless steel tanks where fermentation is carried out semi-carbonically. The wine rests for six months in tank before being racked and bottled with 30ppm of sulphur.
