Hugh Hamilton The Villain Cabernet Sauvignon (750ml)

Hugh Hamilton (the black sheep of the family) and his daughter Mary Hamilton are the 5th and 6th generation of the Australian Hamilton wine dynasty that stretches back over 185 years; they are Australia’s oldest wine family.  The family’s roots trace back to the UK; the Ennglishman, Richard Hamilton at the late age of 45 (old in those days), uprooted his family of nine to travel to a new colony in South Australia.  He quickly realized something was amiss; no wine! He reached out to friends in South Africa asking them to send him grape  vine cuttings.  He planted the first vines in South Australia and made the first wines here; this was the beginning of the Australian wine industry. 

In 1991 Hugh Hamilton left the long established family land and winery to go out on his own, plant his own grapes and make the kind of wines he wanted (hence the Black Sheep moniker).  Today his daughter Mary is at the helm of the business.  Their wines represents a vivid tapestry of colorful lives and unparalleled winemaking knowledge. 

Hugh Hamilton wines were some of the first wines at Bishop’s Cellar when the store opened in 2003 and we are thrilled to welcome them back!
