Found in the east end of downtown of St. John’s, Bannerman Brewing is a locally owned and operated brewery, tasting room, cafe and event space. Home to a lighthearted crew, they have a passion for crafting artisanal beer and sharing it with our community.

To know the story of our brewery is to know the history of their neighbourhood. Long before the brewery poured first beer, Bannerman Brewing Co. was the location of the city’s historic East Fire Station. Originally constructed after the Great Fire of 1892, it was rebuilt in the 1950s and still stands today at the corner of Duckworth and Ordnance Street

Tasting Notes

Classic aromatics of sourdough bread, freshly baked biscuits, and that unmistakable German hop aroma of lemon-pepper, herbaceous, and fresh cut grass. The palate is full on flavour, yet extremely smooth and quaffable like all good lagers.

Method

Brewers in Munich wanted to take the hugely popular Pilsner style and tweak it slightly to palates that wanted less bitterness. A light lager was born, still using noble German hops but just less of them. Helles is German for light. It is light in flavour and hop character and it is the foundation for a lot of the industrial pale lagers that you see all over the world.

All Hands is a German-style Helles made with Pilsner malt and a blend of European hops.
