A domain mentioned since 1888 and which bears the name of Millot for four generations. The vineyard covers 7.5 ha in Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Beaune. Émilien Millot has been working with his father at the family estate in Meursault since 2010. In the vineyard, he wants to enhance the life in the soil and does not hesitate to do his last summer treatments in the evening, in order to reduce the doses of products. He ages his wines with moderate use of new barrels. This young and talented winemaker produces lovely deep reds without artifacts, and a series of whites including a beautiful range of Meursault villages that emphasize the expression of unique places.

Tasting Notes

Ripe orchard fruit, citrus, white flowers with delicate baking spice, caramel and toast notes from oak.  The palate is smooth, lush and concentrated with lemon peel, orange and stone fruit flavours, integrated balanced oak and a wonderful round texture and weight.  The acidity is fresh and juicy and fruit flavours, a suggestion of wet stone and light barrel notes carry onto the finish.  One can enjoy this elegant Meursault now, but it will develop and gain compexity over the next 5 to 10 years.  Pairing suggestions include rich fish and shellfish like halibut, scallops or lobster with melted butter, roast chicken and creamy mashed potatoes or a simple serving of a high quality Brie with sourdough bread,  ripe pear, honey.

Method

100% Chardonnay from the lieu dit “En La Barre” in the village of Meursault in Burdgundy’s Cote de Beaune escarpment.  Most of the vineyards here face southeast and lie on limestone and limestone-rich marl soils.  Meursault is located in the middle of the Cote de Beaune and is the largest wine producing village in the Cote d’Or and the vast majority of the wine is high quality Chardonnay.  Wine writer Matt Kramer wrote, “If gold were a flavor, it would taste like Meursault”.

This wine is made via direct pressing for 3 to 4 hours; with static débourbage; an ambient yeast alcoholic fermentation in barrels followd by malolactic fermentation in barrels.  20% new oak barrels and 80% barrels of 2 to 10 uses; maturation on lees for 12 months without bâtonnage.
