Folly of the Beast is the result of a winemaker’s quest to make good Pinot Noir with a price tag that doesn’t make you want to weep. Folly of the Beast is named after the great Moby Dick quote “For there is no folly of the beast of the earth that is not infinitely outdone by the madness of men.” It’s Winc’s mission (and madness) to consistently deliver great Pinot at an affordable price. Folly of the Beast wines are made by Winc. Winc’s story bagan in 2012 under another name: Club W. Club W was the world’s first personalized wine club. It made the process of discovering and buying wine easier than ever; eventually this club expanded to other facets of the wine experience.

Winc sources its grapes from many destinations, but it remains connected to every aspect of the winemaking process. Spearheading that commitment is Ryan Zotovich, whose wealth of experience makes him an ideal fit as the Director of Winemaking. From harvest to crush to bottling to sourcing unique varietals, Ryan is unendingly hands-on, to ensure that the final product always meets Winc’s vision.

Tasting Notes

Berry fruit driven with notes of sweet spice.  Medium weight with a round and silky texture and ripe red fruit flavours.  Smooth and easy drinking.  Enjoy with pulled pork, duck, cedar planked salmon, roasted beets, candied walnuts and goat cheese.

Method

The Pinot Noir grapes for Folly of the Beast are sourced from California’s Central Coast, where foggy mornings and cool evenings are optimal conditions for producing quality Pinot Noir grapes. The wine ages for 12 months in 33% new French oak.

Had this at the Bicycle Thief. Was smooth, easy to drink and paired well with my pasta. Will be buying for home consumption.
