This wine is made by Maison PraJa, that is, the Prataviera-Jegerlehner family. It was established in Gascony in 1920 by an adventurous Swiss winemaker, Jean Francois Morel. After starting with only 10 hectares, the family’s holdings grew to what is now 270 hectares today. Elizabeth Prataveira, the 4th generation winemaker and owner, works alongside her brother Philippe who focuses on caring for the vineyards. The estate is located in the heart of Bas-Armagnac on Via Podensis, trodden over the centuries by pilgrims waking the French route towards Santiago di Compostella in Galicia, Spain.
The wines from their aptly named Haut Marin, come from an area that was once covered by the sea over 23 million years ago. Today, what remains is an ancient seabed with fossils of marine life that once existed. The soils are geologically complex and composed of marine sediment, clay-limestone, shallow gravel. This type of soil contributes to wines that are extremely pure and fresh.
Tasting Notes
Aromas and flavours of ripe field berries. The palate is fruity with a vibrant tang and freshness and a crisp finish; everything you want in a quaffable rosé. Enjoy as an aperitif with light snacks, with seafood pasta or chicken dishes.
Method
A rosé made from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tannat grapes which due to their deeply pigmented skin provides a deeper coloured rosé as compared to the rosés from Provence.
