The Ligneres family is bringing much needed attention to the Languedoc of southern France. The story is an unexpected one. Both the husband and wife have a background in medicine, and like many other traditional winemakers have wine running through their veins. Andre is a general practitioner and Suzette is a pharmacist. Together with their children, they manage La Baronne estate. The family is very much hands-on—they utilize dry-farming, hand harvesting, and have been certified organic and biodynamic.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of white and yellow flesh fruits with floral notes. The palate is luscious and harmonious; round and concentrated, bright acidity, minerality and a saline finish. Enjoy this with light summer cuisine based on seasonal vegetables, seafood, farmhouse goat cheeses.
Method
A blend of organically grown and biodynamic certified Grenache, Vermentino and Roussanne. The grapes were picked by hand in late August on the beautiful terraces of the estate. The soils are gravelly, clay-limestone. The grapes were sorted, destemmed and directly pressed before undergoing a wild yeast fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine was then aged on the fine lees in a stainless steel tank for 4 months before bottling.
