French-Canadian Pascal Marchand moved to France in 1985 when he was 22 years old, beginning his winemaking journey at Clos des Epeneaux in Pommard and becoming part of a new generation of Burgundy producers who believed that good wine starts in the vineyard. After several stints all around the world and an impressive resume of consulting, Pascal became one of the best known “flying winemakers.”
Moray Tawse is a financier by trade, serving as the vice president and co-founder of First National. After realizing the potential of winemaking in Niagara, Ontario, Moray purchased his first six acres of vineyard in 2000. Five years later, he opened Tawse winery and has since acquired 200 acres of vineyards all over the Niagara region and has been named Canadian Winery of the year multiple times.
Marchand-Tawse is a co-venture between Pascal and Moray; this duo of vignerons/micro-négociants are working with their partner-growers in the many appellations of Burgundy while embracing organic and biodynamic farming practices, crafting wines of purity and class.
Tasting Notes
Refreshing citrus zest, roasted hazelnuts, crushed stone and fragrant white flowers lend charm and typicity to this lovely Meursault, while a precise, chiseled structure and penetrating mineral core offers depth, finesse and length. Enjoy with rich creamy cheeses, shellfish, pastas in cream sauces, roast chicken, roasted vegetables, cheese of mushroom risotto or a bowl of truffle chips.
Method
100% Chardonnay from the beloved Cote de Beaune white village appellation, Meursault, which is located in the south east portion of the Cote de Beaune and is home to some of the world’s most famous white wines. It is the largest wine producing village in a the Cote d’Or and it’s strength and appeal lies in the village’s very high quality production for this tier of wine (ie. you can get a top quality, complex, ageworthy wine without jumping up to premier cru Meursault). The wine has a palate pleasing quality and is the archetype of Chardonnay that wine growers and wine makers seek to emmulate worldwide.
The grapes are whole bunched pressed, lightly crushed, alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in barrel, sur lies with no battonage, aged 14 months, 20% in new French oak, one racking before fining and a light filtering at bottling.
