Since 1956, the Piedmonte winemaker Michele Chiarlo has made superior Barberas and high quality Barolos that today are consistently among the most renowned expressions of these wines. Over the years, Michele Chiarlo has realized a success and recognition brought by constant pursuit of quality. The winery is 100% family owned and operated, showcasing only local, single varietal expressions of terroir- no international grapes and no blends. The family specializes in 4 grapes that are considered to be the greatest native varietals of Piedmont: Nebbiolo, Barbera, Cortese and Moscato.
Tasting Notes
Subtly perfumed with aromas of white flowers like acacia, peach and ripe pear. The palate is medum bodied with pulpy yellow fruit flavours, a balance rounded texture and a light savoury notes on the clean finish. Enjoy this unoaked and versatile white wine with seafood, pastas with oil, butter or red sauces, vegeteble mains, greens and fresh cheese.
Method
This wine is 100% Arneis gorwn almost exclusively on sandy soil of marine origin mixed with other more recent fluvial soils and some chalk. The grapes were softly-pressed, followed by 15 days of fermentation at 16-18°C and then rested for 3 months is steel tanks on the fine lees before bottling.
Arneis is a native white Piemontese grape from the hills of Roero. It has been cultivated in this area since the 15th century and was almost extinct in the 1960s but was thankfully brought back into the light by some dedicated producers. The grape’s name recalls the vine’s difficult nature in the vineyard, as Arneis, in Piemontese dialect refers to a difficult personality. Locals sometimes call Arneis “Nebbiolo Bianco”, which speaks to the historical significance of this white grape.
