Cantina Spinelli is a family winery that was founded in 1973 by Vincenzo Spinelli.  His sons, Carlo and Adriano joined the business full time ten years later.  They are one of the main wine producers in Abruzzo today having undergone continued growth and expansion over the years all while maintaining a deep connection to family and tradition with the goal of making quality affordable wines.  They have a large ultramodern proprietary winery, with a state of the art barrel cellar for ageing wines.  

The estate is located in the region of Chieti in the Val di Sangro and the Frentane hills in Abruzzo, between the Maiella mountain and the Adriatic Sea.  The climate here is Mediterranean; warm and ventilated, with dry breezes from the sea and significant temperature fluctuations from day to night. 

Tasting Notes

Ruby red with bright purple hues. Generous aroma of red fruit and delicate spicy notes.  The wine has medium acidity and tannins and great overall balance with good length.  Perfect for traditional Mediterranean dishes, it pairs very well with first courses with meat sauces as well as with red and white grilled meat. Great with several medium-aged cheeses.

Method

Made with mostly Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes and a splash of Sangiovese from the heart of the province of Chieti, between the Maiella National Park and the Adriatic Sea.  The landscape is hilly, with an average altitude of 230 metres above sea level, with mostly
calcareous clay soil.  Fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks.
