Thelmo Rodriguez is one of Spain’s top elite winemakers.  He is originally from Rioja and he spent many years exploring Spain’s wine appellations.  He was drawn to sites regions and sites that lay practically abandoned as he saw the potential in these plots to become some of the best vineyards in the world.  He partnered with his friend Pablo Eguzkiza in the early 1990’s and created Comapania de Vinos Telmo Rodrigue.  Togther, they have identified and restored vineyard sites in nine different wine regions across the country.  They trained as winemakers at University of Bordeaux and also worked in French vineyards.  Today, Telmo and Pablo are some of the most innovative and respected organic wine producers in Spain today.

Tasting Notes

Pale green-tinged yellow in the glass.  Aromas of freshly squeezed lemon and lime, summer herbs and blossoms.  The palate is fresh and energetic with juicy Meyer lemon and snappy green apple flavors.  The finish is crisp with a mineral note and lingering anise and lemon pith.  This is an ideal white wine to enjoy with seafood starters, green salads, nachos with fresh salsa and guacamole, lemon and shrimp pasta.

Method

A blend of 90% Verdejo and 10% Viura from the Rueda appellation, located in the Duero Valley in Castilla y Leon.  The Rueda DO is about a 2 hour drive northwest of Madrid.  It is famous for its fresh and crisp white wines made predominantly from the Verdejo grape. This wine is named after the low (basa) bush trained vines from which the grapes are sourced.  These 40-year-old bush vines grow on on limestone-rich soils at over 700-meters elevation on a plateau along the Duero River. The vineyard is farmed organically, and fermentation is carried out spontaneously with native yeast.

Very light and crisp. Perfect for casual drinking. The lemon flavour definitely comes through.
