Worthy Park is an estate steeped with a rich history dating all the way back to 1670. The land was originally gifted to Francis Price for his service during the English capture of the island from the Spanish in 1655. First planted with cacao trees; a terrible blight left the estate bare to replant with sugar cane. The first record of rum being produced was in 1741 and production steadily continued while passing through different owners until the 1960s. Post WW2, the Jamaican Government took action to stop the over production of rum, coming to an agreement with Worthy Park- who stepped down and ceased distilling. Fortunately, in 2005 production began again after a 45 hiatus. Worthy Park proudly presents estate grown, aged and bottled rums.
Tasting Notes
From the distillery: “On the nose it presents a crisp, light aroma, unlike a traditional full-strength Overproof rum. Worthy Park’s signature ripe tropical fruit flavours share the spotlight with cane sugar sweetness with a slight tickle of honey which is attributed to our cane juice distillate. Its palate presents a familiar overproof punch, while complemented with sugar, honey and fruit flavours.”
Method
A modern-day rum industry first, Worthy Park’s Overproof is a blend of molasses and cane sugar juice, both estate produced. 100% copper pot still produced using un-aged rum, overproof rum is ideal for cocktail mixing.
