Zenato is a historic and well respected name in Northern Italy’s Veneto region. Sergio Zenato started the winery in 1960 and today the family tradition in winemaking is carried on by his children Alberto and Nadia. The estate produces a range of white, red and rose wines. Today, Zenato has 95 hectares of vineyards between San Benedetto di Lugana, which provides the ideal conditions for growing Trebbiano di Lugana, and Sant’Ambrogio in Valpolicella, home to the celebrated wine Amarone and Zenato’s top reds, and the renowned grape varieties Corvina, Rondinella, and Oseleta. They are known for consistently producing high quality wines that appeal to a broad range of palates; from the most discerning to the very casual wine consumer.
Tasting Notes
This wine has a strong personality, offering notes of raspberries and blackcurrants with grassy undertones that are mirrored harmoniously in the mouth. On the palate, it is delicate and balanced with structured acidity and a lingering sweet almond finish. Enjoy this rose with Italian inspired antipasti, seafood pasta or even roast chicken.
Method
A blend of 65% Corvina, 25% Rondinella, and 10% Merlot. This wine is produced in the zone overlooking the southeast coast of lake Garda, between Bardolino and Peschiera. It is created by leaving the must in contact with the skins for a short time in order to delicately colour the juice.
Our Thoughts
I love to drink French rose, but this dry Italian variation is impressive; lots of raspberry notes on nose with some grassy freshness and balanced acidity. Perfect to sip on its own, with antipasti or white meats.
