Giorgio Meletti Cavallari produces wines in Castagneto Carducci, in the the Bolgheri region of Tuscany’s southern coast. This area is renowned for producing many spectacular and iconic Tuscan reds and is home to the Supertuscan movement. Giorgio comes from a winemaking family, his father is Piermario Meletti Cavalleri and mother Paola Cavallari, founders of the iconic Grattamacco Bolgheri estate (1977) and whose vineyards were the second to be planted in the region after Sassicaia. His parents subsequently sold their vineyards and winery in Bolgheri; but the legacy continues and today their son Giorgio is following in his parent’s footsteps and has been practicing organic viticulture and producing memorable wines since the age of 24 at his own estate since 2002. In addition to cultivating 7 hectares of vines, producing wines he operates an agriturismo.
Tasting Notes
Straw yellow in the glass with a light green hue. Pleasantly aromatic with a medley of juicy fresh fruit, white peach, pear and banana with citrus blossom notes and orange peel. The palate is harmonious and fresh combining ripe fruit and lasting minerality. Enjoy with grilled seafood, white meats or simple on its own!
Method
This is a blend of Vermentino and Viognier. The wine is fermented at low temperature to preserve freshness and rests for around 4/5 months in stainless steel tanks, followed by a short rest in bottle before it is released for consumption.
