Benjamin Bridge vineyards are located in the heart of the Gaspereau Valley on the Bay of Fundy, where the cool climate bears an uncanny affinity with the Champagne region of France. The estate makes a range of wines;sparkling, white, red, rose, dry and sweet. Though the focus is on making world-class Méthode Classique sparkling wines that have been compared in tastings to Champagne. The hand crafted wines of Benjamin Bridge have helped raise the profile of the Nova Scotian wine industry.
Tasting Notes
This wine shows a complex and developed nose as a result of the reserve wines that go into this unique multivintage blend. This is a style for those who like mature tradional method sparkling wines where the focus is more on the secondary and tertiary aromas rather than upfront fresh fruit. There is a suggestion of citrus, apple and baked pear on the nose, but it quickly moves towards a spectrum of nuts, olives and button mushroom. The palate has medium body, a lively mousse with mineral and nutty flavors and finishes with sourdough bread notes.
Method
This Solera-inspired non-vintage sparkling wine has no base vintage; instead it is composed exclusively of a small percentage of reserve wines dating back more than a decade. The team at Benjamin Bridge was inspired to pursue this idea by tasting trials of the 2017 vintage and explored the entirety of their reserve wines that had aged in a variety of mediums – oak, concrete, stainless and bottle. The Vin de Reserve is a blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 50% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Meunier. Aged on the lees for 2 years. It is an Extra Brut style with a dosage of 5 g/L.
