Zenato is a historic and well respected name in Northern Italy’s Veneto region. Sergio Zenato started the winery in 1960 and today the family tradition in winemaking is carried on by his children Alberto and Nadia. The estate produces a range of white and red wines.

Tasting Notes

This is a medium bodied Valpolicella, with more weight and depth than most. On the palate, it’s dry and smooth with good structure and wonderfully robust notes of cherry and prune.  This wine has an impressive lingering finish with rich flavour.

Method

The blend is 85% Corvina Veronese, 10% Rondinella, and 5% Corvinone.  The grapes are manually harvested the first 10 days in October.  Followed by de-stemming and traditional maceration for a period of 10 days in stainless steel fermenters. At the end of the alcoholic fermentation, the wine is separated from the skins with gentle pressing and aged in oak casks for  about 12 months.

Nothing goes better with my favourite dish, chicken parmigiana, than a valpolicella. Zenato and Tommasi are my favourites. I come to you as often as I can to stock up on Zenato.

The flavour of this wine is nicely balanced — not too timid and not too bold. I can’t tell you what foods it goes best with because it tastes great with whatever I’m having.

Zenato Superiore is deliciously light but rich. Very dynamic and excellent with ossobuco or a carbonara. Is like a light Pinot Noir.
