New Beer For You
The latest from here and beyond.
We’ve sourced quite the number of new beers this week, including some from our now-closed pals 2 Crows Brewing. This week, we’ve also received a pair of winners from Cape Breton’s very own Big Spruce Brewing and famous Toronto brewery Bellwoods is back with a pair of heaters, too. Check them out sooner rather than later!

2 Crows Brewing Co. was formed by husband and wife duo Mark and Kelly Huizink and brewmaster Jeremy Taylor. With an aim to get people thinking about craftsmanship, where their beer is coming from and the various characteristics that make beer memorable. 2 Crows has become a staple in the Nova Scotian craft beer scene, making one of the most wide arrays of beer styes in the province. From simple everyday lagers, to lush hop-bomb IPA’s, smoothie fruit sours, and an impressive range of barrel aged and mixed fermentation beer. 2 Crows literally has something for everyone.

New Releases from Ardnamurchan
Taste the story.
Tucked away on the wild Ardnamurchan peninsula, this remote, renewable-powered distillery was founded by independent bottler Adelphi in 2013 and released its first single malt in 2020, crafting Scotch full of character while supporting their local economy.

One of the most remote distilleries in Scotland, it is a 90-minute drive from Ft. William along a winding almost single track road on the unspoiled and untamed Ardnamurchan peninsula. Ardnamurchan was established by Adelphi Distillery LTD, an independent bottler named for a distillery which closed in 1902. Building started for the Ardnamurchan distillery in 2013 and it launched its first-ever single malt Scotch whisky in late 2020. Due to its remote location the distillery relies heavily on renewable, local resources fueling an important and functional circular economy for the area.

Uccelliera
Some of Tuscany’s finest, available now.
Perched on the hills above Castelnuovo dell’Abate and facing the ancient volcano of Mount Amiata, Uccelliera takes its name from a historic “aviary,” where raptors once hunted near Sant’Antimo Abbey and the alabaster quarries. Born to sharecroppers, Andrea Cortonesi grew up working these vineyards from childhood. Guided by his own passion and leading wine mentors, he honed his craft and, in 1986, he acquired the farm and we’re so happy he did. Try a pair of terrific bottles of Tuscany’s finest this weekend.

Uccelliera is the name of an old homestead laid on the hillslope of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, overlooking the ancient volcano of Mount Amiata. Some Middle Age papers report of the existence of this place, called Uccelliera (aviary), near Sant’ Antimo Abbey and the alabaster quarries, attributing the origin of its name to the use of raptors for hunting.
Andrea Cortonesi is the only son of a family of sharecroppers and has been working in the vineyards and in all the related activities of the farm since his childhood, when he started helping his father.
Both his passion and the mentorship of some of the most respected wine personalities sharpen his skills as a winemaker and entrepreneur so that in 1986 he acquires the farm with century-old olive trees, pastures and a small vineyard. Andrea grew up in that culture of farmers made of sacrifice and hard work where you learn to have deep respect, love and humility for the land.

Uccelliera is the name of an old homestead on the slopes of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, overlooking the ancient volcano of Mount Amiata. Uccelliera is the Italian word for aviary; there are documents dating back to the Middle Ages indicating that in this local, near the Sant’ Antimo Abbey and the alabaster quarries, raptors were once used for hunting.
Andrea Cortonesi is the only son of a family of sharecroppers; he has worked in vineyards his entire life. He has had excellent mentors along the way and has honed his skills as a winemaker and entrepreneur over the years. In 1986 he acquired the farm with century-old olive trees, pastures and a small vineyard and has been tending to his land and wines ever since.
“Farming today requires considerable individual dedication, but that does not mean that it can be seen as a vocation to solitary labour. Growth must be collective, since if my neighbour makes mistakes, I will suffer the consequences, and vice versa. This is the reason I dedicate time to mutual agricultural concerns, to meetings, to the study of all those things that, apart from work in the fields, are part of our world. Our work has serious meaning for all of our society, so it bears doing with conscientiousness and responsibility.” – Andrea Cortonesi

Jean-Paul Brun
Legendary producer from Beaujolais is back.
Founded in 1979 in the village of Charnay, Domaine des Terres Dorées is Jean-Paul Brun’s estate in southern Beaujolais. A champion of terroir, Brun treats Gamay like the finest-red Burgundy, avoiding carbonic maceration in favor of traditional methods: hand sorting, full destemming, slow native-yeast fermentations. Today, he crafts wines from several key Beaujolais crus. We’re pleased to have some additions to our selection of his wines in store this time around.

Domaine des Terres Dorées is the name of Jean-Paul Brun’s estate in the village of Charnay located within the Cote de Brouilly cru in southern Beaujolais. Jean-Paul established his estate in 1979. From the beginning, his goal has been to grow grapes and make wines that showcase terroir. Jean-Paul prefers to treat his Gamay like red Burgundy and opts for a more traditional approach to winemaking; that is he is not in favour of carbonic maceration as he feels it masks the terroir of Beaujolais. He sorts the fruit by hand, destems encourages long and slow ferments and uses only indigenous yeasts. Today he produces wines from a few of the Beaujolais crus.
