Albert Sounit winery is located in Rully and Buxy in the Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy. The property has a long history dating back to 1781, when the family Jeunet established the company. The winery was built in 1851 by the Jeunet family in a quarry; it is made up of large, vaulted cellars – ideal for aging the wines. The Sounit family took over the estate in 1945. In 1988 Knud Kjellerup, a Danish wine importer, started to import the wines from Albert Sounit – and in 1993 he and two good friends bought the company. They believe in the potential of the Côte Chalonnaise vineyards.
Albert Sounit has since that time undergone a tremendous development with huge investments in winery, vineyard and people, including the acquisition of Domaine Bernollin in 2005. Today Albert Sounit is a 16,5 ha large estate, with vineyards in Rully and Montagny. In addition to their own vineyards, they purchase grapes from local wine growers with whom they have had long standing relationships.
Most of their wines are single vineyard wines. As of 2019 the vineyards have been farmed organically.
Tasting Notes
Intense and complex nose of peach, apricot and mango with notes of brioche. The palate is full, slightly creamy with balancing crisp acidity. The finish is pleasantly long with lingering notes of stone fruit and baking spice. Enjoy this white Burgundy with shellfish, creamy risotto or seafood pasta, light meats and poultry and even foie gras.
Method
Made from hand harvested Chardonnay grapes. The grapes are pressed in a pneumatic press and fermented in oak barrels. In order not to dominate the wines with oak, they use a variety of barrels – all 100% French oak: 228 liter, 300 liter and 500 l. barrels. Different coopers, different origin of French oak, different age and different toasting of the barrels. Ageing in barrels last from 8 – 18 months depending on the appellation. After aging the wines are decanted in a stainless steel tanks for a couple of months before being bottled without filtration.
