You’ll find Brancaia in the heart of Tuscany’s Chianti Classico area, encompassing three estates: Brancaia (Castellina), Poppi (Radda) and Brancaia in Maremma (Grosseto). Brancais has been owned and operated by Swiss couple Brigitte and Bruno Widmer since 1981. The estate came to instant fame with its outstanding 1983 Chianti Classico. Since then, through uncompromising dedication to quality, Brancaia’s wines continue to stand out and command the attention and praise of Tuscan wine lovers and international wine critics. In addition to their powerful Chianti Classico, they produce a range of Supertuscans that have garnered cult status.

Tasting Notes

A Supertuscan blend of Sangiovese and Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark and chocolatey with lots of structure and velvety tannins.

Our Thoughts

The 2013 Il Blu is truly an exceptional wine. This blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon pours from the bottle with midnight black intensity. The wine is luscious and loud in terms of its aromatic intensity but the effect is beautifully balanced all the while. The wine is streamlined and tight in the mouth but don’t underestimate its length and persistence. The finish can be counted in many long heartbeats. Some 32,000 bottles were produced. – Monica Larner
