Ca’Marcanda is Angelo Gaja’s (of Barbaresco, Piemonte) estate in Bolgheri, southern Tuscany. Gaja saw the potential in Bolgheri for producing top quality wines back in 1994 and he established a winery there in 1996. Today the estate extends over an area of approximately 80 hectares of vineyards in Bolgheri’s DOC appellation. Although Angelo, who is now in his mid 80s, is still involved in the family’s wine businesses, Angelo’s children are at the helm of his estates.
Tasting Notes
A medley of dark fruit on the nose; black cherry and plum with underlying notes of violet, rose, sandalwood and resinous oils. Approachable yet well- structured palate. There is lots of concentration and volume in the mouth without any heaviness thanks to refreshing acidity. This wine would pair well with grilled or barbecued meats or Mediterranean vegetables with fresh herbs.
Method
This blend of Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese handpicked and fermented and aged seperately for 1 year in oak before blending and bottling.
