Viña Carmen is the first Chilean Winery, founded in 1850. With a track record going back over 168 years, Carmen is relentless in its quest for innovation. New Varieties. New brands. Pioneering creations. These help us understand why Carmen is a reinvented classic. And so is Frida Kahlo. An influential historical reference that even back in her time managed to transform tradition, constantly questioning the established mores of society. Her legacy has led this generation to believe that a classic can be current, and it will still live on.
Tasting Notes
A deep and intense ruby-red in color, the nose presents aromas of black currants, blackberries, and licorice with smooth, elegant cedar notes. The palate is very rich and generous yet fresh and vibrant at the same time. The wine has abundant fruit and firm tannins that lend structure and depth.
Method
The grapes were handpicked from our estate vineyards, located over the best alluvial terraces in Alto Maipo Region by the Andes mountains. Before fermentation the grapes are cold macerated for 10 days at 4oC, to ensure maximum retention of primary fruit aromas and to maximize colour extraction. Alcoholic fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks at 28o – 29o C. The total maceration period was between 14-22 days. The total blend was aged in French oak barrels for a period of 14 months, malolactic fermentation occurred naturally in barrels.
