Maison M. Chapoutier is an iconic French winemaking house that dates back to 1808 and is one of the most admired French wine brands in the world.  From the beginning the house has always had a strong sense of business and sold their wines locally but also exported their products.  They continued to acquire vineyards and expand their cellars; today they also have vineyards and projects outside of France.

The estate is located at the foot of the Hermitage hill in the Rhone Valley; the name clearly visible on the hill which certainly speaks to the importance of this family, their brand and their work in this region.

Tasting Notes

An expressive nose of white flowers; orange blossom and jasmine, peach and exotic fruit.  The palate is rich and balanced with plenty volume and a zingy, saline finish.  The perfect accompaniment to lighter fare with fresh and zesty flavours like sushi, shrimp cocktail, green salads with fresh goat’s cheese.

Method

The vines are planted in Miocene era sands and limestone scree at altitudes of 200 to 450 metres asl so they are subject to a high diurnal temperature swing which gives the wine its freshness.  The white grapes for this harmonious blend are harvested at night, by machine, to limit oxidation and preserve the aromatic qualities.  Total destemming followed by a gentle pressing. Cold static settling. Low temperature alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats and made in a reductive environment (protected from oxygen) to preserve its aromas.   Aged 5 months on the fine lees in stainless steel vats.
