The story of Château Larrivet Haut-Brion dates back to 1987, when Philippe and Christine Gervoson acquired the estate. With perseverance and patience, they, whose only training was only the love of the land, devoted more than thirty years of their lives to taking up a sizeable challenge: to transform a neglected vineyard into one of the jewels of the region and shape it in their image. Château Larrivet Haut-Brion carefully preserves the authenticity and intimacy of a true family home. Today the estate is in the hands of the new generation, the Gervoson’s three daughters, with Emilie at the helm.
Tasting Notes
Dark ruby color. Great aromatic complexity with notes of ripe fruits, spices, licorice and smoke. The palate is full and concentrated with focused acidity and seamlessly integrated tannins from bottle age. Enjoy this with a special meal and good company. Roast lamb, venison or duck would compliment this special bottle.
Method
A blend of 55% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, vines are on average 35 years old and grown on deep gravel with clay. The grapes are hand harvested, sorted and destemmed before being crushed and fermented, plot by plot, in stainless steel temperature controlled tanks at about 28-32°C with 3-4 pumping daily pumpovers and a long maceration of 25-30 days. The wine ages  14 to 18 month in 40% new oak barrels.Â
