Vincent Roussely is the fourth-generation winemaker at his family’s beautiful 8-hectare vineyard site in the heart of Chenonceaux, in the village of Angé on the Cher River, in the Loire Valley.  The vineyards have been certified organic since 2007.  He even transitioned vineyard work from machine and horse to doing all everything by hand in order to have the least impact on the soil, vines and grapes which he believes greatly improved the quality of the wines.  

Tasting Notes

A pronounced bouquet of grapefruit, ripe stone fruit, nettles and fresh herbs.  Light and bright in texture, yet surprisingly fruit-driven, with flavors of lemon flesh, apricot, pineapple, savory herbs.  The finish is generous with classic Touraine minerality.  If you love French Sauvignon Blanc but find the premium price points of most Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé more than you want to spend on an everyday wine, look no further.  Here you have more fruit character and restrained minerality than the aforementioned wines without compromising on deliciousness.   Enjoy it as an aperitif, seafood, fresh greens, grilled asparagus, Thai food, white meats.  


Planted mainly to Sauvignon Blanc, the soil is a mixture of clay and limestone with pockets of Silex where the oldest vineyards are situated (many of which are over 80 years old). The cellar is dug into a tuffeau stone tunnel underground, and underneath the vines. All fermentations are spontaneous and naturally very slow. The resulting wine was aged 6 months in stainless steel before bottling.

Our Thoughts

Vincent Roussely is a 4th generation vigneron who does all the vineyard work by hand (and horse!) and employs minimal intervention in the cellar; the wine is spontaneously fermented with wild yeasts and rests in stainless steel for 6 months before bottling. The result is a beautiful bouquet of citrus that moves towards tropical fruit with underlying fresh herbs. Medium-weight with a round texture, lots of fruit with balanced zesty acidity and classic Loire Valley minerality.
