The history of the house dates to 1927 when Denis’ grandfather acquired his first parcels of vines.  Denis’s father and uncle ran the domaine for nearly four decades, until 2012, when Denis took over, fulfilling a dream. He and his partner, Estelle, manage the domaine with help in the vineyards from Denis’s father and uncle and a handful of seasonal workers. “Respect for terroir has always been valued here, even in my father’s time,” Denis says. “Today, it’s mostly the material that has evolved. My investments were mainly focused on the quality of the vines and the wine.”The estate is located in the prestigious Vouvray appellation.  As part of the Paris basin, the soils are a fossilized marine base. The bedrock, from which the region’s historic cellars are cut, is called tuffeau. The topsoils are flinty clay, limestone, gravels, and marls.  The climate is marked by the tension between moderate maritime and more extreme continental influences. The vignerons here have been experiencing the devastating effects of climate change with many recent vintages suffering from the severe weather; hail and various disease pressures.  Though when all goes well and with careful vineyard management, the Chenin Blanc here displays mouthwatering acidity and a haunting, richness and depth.

Tasting Notes

Pronounced fruit forward nose, ripe pear and baked apple, round and elegant on the palate.  A balanced and delicious demi-sec style where the sweetness is nicely balanced by the wine’s juicy acidity.  A quality off-dry Vouvray is the easiest way to elevate a cheese plate; it compliments and enchances so many types of cheeses.  Also a great partner for foie gras, pork with apple sauce and carmelized onions, grilled prosciutto wrapped peaches or any umami rich flavors.

Method

100% Chenin Blanc from the Chançay vineyard located in the Vouvray appellation of the Loire Valley.  The vines are planted on flint, clay soil and are farmed organically.  Fermentation is 50% via an inoculated specific yeast and  50 % of the juice is spontaneously fermented via ambient yeasts, both in stainless steel followed by a period of 4-7 months rest in stainless steel then in bottle.   This is a demi-sec (off-dry) style with about 20 g/L RS.
