Jean Luc Longeres is one of the founders of Terra Vitis. He owns a five-hectare domaine in Beaujolais and one day his daughter will take over the estate. Longère recently planted two hectares of Chardonnay to produce more white wine—something of a specialty here. His holdings are located in the commune of Pérreon, whose steeply sloping pink granite hills number among the finest terroirs in the Beaujolais-Villages appellation. Dedicated vineyard work, much of it performed by hand, delivers grapes that are judiciously vinified, with partial destemming, gentle extraction and deftly judged élevage. Given the domaine’s small size, most of the production is sold direct to consumers who visit the small tasting room, so we are thrilled to be able to offer this wine at Bishop’s Cellar.
This is not an “in your face Chardonnay”. This Beaujolais blanc is subtle and nuanced. Orange oil, peach, a hint of musk and fresh nutmeg delivering attractive, delicately exotic aromas of orange oil, musky peach and white blossom. The palate is medium bodied with refreshing and a pleasing texture from some lees ageing. The wine exudes a chalky saline quality that makes one crave seafood; enjoy this with oysters, scallops, fried fish.
This cuvée is produced from Chardonnay grown on pink granite soils in the Beaujolais appellation. It is fermented and matured in stainless steel tanks and rests on the lees for a period before bottling.
