Domaine des Terres Dorées is the name of Jean-Paul Brun’s estate in the village of Charnay located within the Cote de Brouilly cru in southern Beaujolais. Jean-Paul established his estate in 1979. From the beginning, his goal has been to grow grapes and make wines that showcase terroir. Jean-Paul prefers to treat his Gamay like red Burgundy and opts for a more traditional approach to winemaking; that is he is not in favour of carbonic maceration as he feels it masks the terroir of Beaujolais. He sorts the fruit by hand, destems encourages long and slow ferments and uses only indigenous yeasts. Today he produces wines from a few of the Beaujolais crus.
Tasting Notes
This is a deep and dense style of Beaujolais showing pronoucned aromas and flavours of dark red fruit, kirsch, spice and earth. The palate has excellent concentration and depth with a long pleasing finish. A wine that is at once easy to drink but with all the structure and complexity of a serious well made red. This is a top notch Beaujolais and a must try for those who love Gamay (those who don’t will likely change their minds after tasting this one!).
Method
This wine is from the cru village of Morgon, known for making some of the boldest and longest lived Beaujolais. The grapes for this wine are from the prized slope in Morgon called “Cote du Py”, located just south of the village of Villie-Morgon and more specifically, the from an area on the slope known as “Javernieres” characterized by its granite soil which the Gamay grape loves. The wine is aged in concrete tanks.
