Lightfoot & Wolfville is owned and operated by the Lightfoot family who have been farming in the Annapolis Valley for eight generations. Lightfoot & Wolfville brings a light touch and enlightened approach to both the agricultural and artisanal aspects of viticulture and winemaking. They work in harmony with nature and letting the land offer up its innate best, without subjecting it to aggressive inputs. The winery is located on the home farm site, this land has been in Michael’s family for four generations.
Tasting Notes
Pale, luminous gold in the glass. The nose is expressive and fragrant, offering layered aromas of stone fruit, ripe melon, white blossom, and honeyed lime, accented by bright lemongrass and a subtle salt air minerality. On the palate, it is slightly off-dry with a juicy, mouthwatering core — flavours of nectarine, apricot, and lime zest mingle with coastal salinity and a delicate herbal lift. Fresh acidity provides balance and structure with a clean, crisp finish.
Enjoyable on its own as a refreshing summertime white or paired with green salads, cheese sauces and seafood – especially oysters, buttery lobster rolls and fresh crab.
Method
At the heart of every great wine region is an emblematic style that helps define what the region does best. Nova Scotia is blessed with an incredibly unique, coastal influenced terroir and cool climate that imparts a distinctive freshness and vibrancy in our wines. To showcase this, an official appellation – “Tidal Bay” – was created in 2012. The structure of this system is based on well-established European appellations, such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Vinho Verde, Soave, and Chianti, designed to help protect and promote the quality regional wines they represent. Strict viticultural and winemaking standards are regulated by an independent tasting panel.
The 2024 Lightfoot & Wolfville Tidal Bay is a blend of 64% L’Acadie Blanc, 15% Vidal, 11% Geisenheim, 10% Chardonnay from Lightfoot & Wolfville’s estate vinayard’s and some of their organic practicing contract growers. The fruit comes from their Oak Island Vineyard (Avonport), Lightfoot Home Farm (Wolfville), Singh Vineyard (Avonport), Neatt Family Vineyard (Aylesford) & Raven Hill Vineyard (Wolfville). This Tidal Bay is certified organic by Ecocert. 12 g/L RS.
