CreamyTropicalCoconut
First opening their doors in 1997, Propeller Brewing Company has gone from a small brewery on Gottingen St. brewing a Pale Ale and an Extra Special Bitter to become one of the largest brewery’s in Nova Scotia and a driving force in this industry. Owner John Allen has allowed the business to grow and branch into multiple locations and a comprehensive product line that includes beer, ready to drink cocktails, and craft sodas. They have won awards both locally and nationally for a wide array of products and continue to experiment with new styles and old favourites.
Tasting Notes
A smooth tropical sensation. The Propeller Piña Colada IPA is brewed with pineapple, coconut, vanilla bean, and lactose. Dry-hopped with Sabro for an extra kick of tropical fruit aroma for some serious toes-in-the-sand & drink-in-your-hand vibes.
Method
The Propeller Piña Colada IPA takes a Milkshake IPA base and adds pineapple puree, and coconut to the beer. Milkshake IPA is a style that was created in the 2010’s where lactose sugar is added, and since lactose sugar can’t be fermented by brewers yeast it leaves behind a creamy texture in the finished beer. Vanilla bean is also often added to amplify the cream, confectionery flavours. The Milkshake IPA is a full-flavoured foundation to build rich and decadent flavours on; in this case, Pineapple and Coconut.
