Bodegas Alceno, founded in 1870, was the first commercial winery in Spain’s Jumilla region. The vines are planted at a height of 600 to 800 meters in rocky and chalky soils. DO Jumilla is located on a high plain in the eastern region of Spain, acting as a transition zone between the Mediterranean coastal area and the high central plateau of Castile-La Mancha.
Tasting Notes
Cherry and dried fig on the nose, medium bodied with medium tannins and acidity, ripe red fruit flavours and some savoury notes. This an approachable easy drinking Tempranillo that would easily pair with a range of Mediterranean inspired dishes.
Method
Made from Tempranillo grapes from the Jumilla appellation in Murcia. The wine is fermented in stainless steel to preserve the primary characteristics of the grape. This uncomplicated winemaking makes for a fruit driven and excellent value Tempranillo.
Our Thoughts
Jumilla is a wine-producing town near Southeastern Spain’s Mediterranean coast. In this warm, arid region, Tempranillo grapes yield wines full of cherry aromas, balanced with hints of leather, fresh tobacco leaf, and berries. This wine is a great companion for a variety of hearty meat dishes, cured ham, and hard cheeses. This wine is approachable, well valued, and truly versatile.

Great value wine. Balanced tempranillo, soft tannins and round fruit very indicative of the best that Spain has to offer.
