Dating as far back as 1661, this estate has been in the Fleith family for eleven generations. In 1973, René Fleith built a brand new estate which comprises approximately 10 ha, spread out over four terroirs in Alsace, France: the Steinweg, the Dorfburg, the Letzenberg and the Grand Cru Furstentum. Vincent Fleith took the reins of the estate in 1996, implementing biodynamic farming practices (Ecocert and Demeter certified) in 1999. Vincent is committed to Alsace, having only ever left to work in the wine industries of California, Australia, and Beaujolais.
All of their wines are aged on their lees for a minimum of 12 months and aged in bottling for at least 6 months prior to release. Producing both dry and sweet wines, Fleith’s range is everything you want for the region; Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, and Cremant d’Alsace.
Tasting Notes
Pale garnet in the glass. Medium bodied and dry with notes of plum, raisin, violet, spice, forest floor and light roast coffee. Medium acidity with a smooth texture and soft tannins. Enjoy this with bloomy cheeses, truffle or mushroom dishes, patés and terrines.
Method
Made from a selection of the best Pinot Noir from various parcels. The grapes are hand harvested, destemmed, macerated and fermented with wild yeasts.
Alsace is nestled between the traditional homeland for Pinot Noir, Burgundy, and Germany, where the grape is becoming more popular. It makes sense then that Alsace is a suitable growing area for Pinot Noir and produces Pinot Noir that falls stylistically somewhere in the middle of red Burgundy and German Spatburgunder.
