Garganuda Soave

Produced by Giovanni Menti, an organic and biodynamic winemaker in Gambellara, Veneto region of North East Italy.  Giovanni Menti was founded at the end of 19th and started out as a winemaking venture for the family and their neighbors. The estate has since grown into one of the most progressive estates in the Veneto.

The estate is farming 7.5 hectares of Garganega in the hills of Gambellara and Lessini. The viticulture is organic using biodynamic methods, a careful approach they mirror with their cellar work. The Mentis are deeply committed to channeling their volcanic soils through their wines and exist entirely outside of the appellation. Their wines will make you reconsider what Soave is all about.

Petrolo "Galatrona"

Petrolo is a legendary wines estate in Tuscany that has somewhat of a cult following.  The estate’s benchmark wine, is a Merlot from the cru Galatrona which is considered among some of the iconic wines of Tuscany’s quality revolution in the late 1980s and 1990s.  They have been crafting a range of high distinctive high quality wines from the small appellation, Valdarno di Sopra, bordering Chianti Classico.  Though this wine growing area may be still relatively unknown to those outside of the region, the Valdarno di Sopra denomination dates back to the days of the Medici family rule during the Renaissance, and the area has always been renowned viticulture and winemaking.  

Petrolo is the definition of a cult winery, with an owner and a story that have helped create its legendary status. While the estate’s benchmark wine, the Merlot cru Galatrona, deservedly receives fireworks in the press and is part of the history of Tuscany’s quality revolution in the late 1980s and 1990s, the winery’s two other standouts, Torrione and Boggina, are an equally thrilling success – Sangiovese from a special and virtually unknown appellation bordering Chianti Classico that today produces wines of distinct regional identity.

Petrolo is a family wine estate.  It was purchased in the 1940s by Gastone Bazzocchi, who was the first person to begin cultivating high-quality Sangiovese-based wines at the estate.  His grandson, art scholar and painted, Luca Sanjust, brought the winery the cult status it enjoys today.  Petrolo produces outstanding and highly sought after wines from native and non-native varieties.

Wild Orchard Crush Cider

Boars Back Cider is now called Wild Wines & Spirits

For centuries in the Annapolis Valley, farmers have pressed apples and fermented the juice in cool cellars over many months as a means of preservation and to yield a diverse range of cider refreshments. Wild Wines & Spirits uses native and selected yeasts to ferment pure apple juice, pressed on-site from apples they hand pick themselves. The cider is fermented slowly over the cool winter months, aged in barrels and tanks, then blended and bottled the following year.

Brigaldara Amarone della Valpolicella

Owner Stefano Cesari is the intelligent, intense, innovative producer of Valpolicella Classico, Valpolicella Superiore and Amarone. He once served as President of the Valpolicella Region Grower’s Association, where he dedicated his term to improving the quality of Valpolicella through low yields, improved viticultural practices, careful clone selection and modern winemaking techniques. While he farms the traditional grapes of the Valpolicella Classico D.O.C., his emphasis is on the higher-quality Corvina over Rondinella and Molinara. He produces distinctive wines of very high quality from 15 hectares of estate vineyards near the village of San Floriano in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico zone.

Ridge Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

The history of Ridge Vineyards begins in 1885, when Osea Perrone, a doctor who became a prominent member of San Francisco’s Italian community, bought 180 acres near the top of Monte Bello Ridge. He terraced the slopes and planted vineyards; using native limestone, he constructed the Monte Bello Winery, producing the first vintage under that name in 1892. This unique cellar, built into the mountain side on three levels, is Ridge’s production facility. At 2600′, it is surrounded by the “upper vineyard.”

Long Meadow Ranch Anderson Pinot Noir

In the late 1800’s, the majestic Long Meadow Ranch property thrived with vineyards, apple orchards, olive groves, hay and a goat milk dairy until farming fell dormant during Prohibition. Over the following years, the property became swallowed by the encroaching forest until the Halls bought the property in 1989. The Hall family carefully breathed life back into the land, nurturing it back to its glory, and then some, by cutting back the abandoned olive trees and replanting the vineyards and apple orchards as you see them growing today. 

There are over 150 acres of Long Meadow Ranch vineyards planted in Napa and Anderson Valley that are farmed organically. The Hall family and Long Meadow Ranch artisans work together on the various properties that make up Long Meadow Ranch focusing on agriculture, wine, food and service.
