Wild Rock Sauvignon Blanc

Wild Rock is a producer of premium crafted wines situated in New Zealand’s prime wine-growing districts of Hawke’s Bay and Marlborough.  When Captain James Cook and Sir Joseph Banks took their first great voyage in 1769 they encountered the coastline of New Zealand, a wild rock formation as plainly seen from the sea. Banks soon discovered a bountiful land of birdlife and plants with rich soils admirably farmed for crops by the native Māori, blessed by the sun and rivulets of water. His collections and descriptions of plants formed the foundation for the modern study of New Zealand botany. Referencing Captain Cook’s initial impression of New Zealand the Wild Rock labels incorporate those flora and fauna drawings chronicled by Cook and Banks on this initial exploration.

Cazas Novas Vinho Verde

Cazas Novas was established in 2004.  The 25 hectares of vineyards and estate is run by a team of 3.   Owner, Carlos Coutinho, whose family have had the property for seven generations; winemaker Diogo Fonseca Lopes, who has worked closely with Vinho Verde legend Anselmo Mendes; and Vasco Magalhães, son of Sogrape’s Vasco Magalhães.  Located at Santa Marinha do Zezere, north of the Douro, in the Baião sub district of the Vinho Verde, these vineyards are the ‘last outpost’ before entering the red wine producing region of the Douro’s Baixo Corgo.

The climate is slightly warmer climate in their location and the wines have a bit more richness, though are still very much fresh and bright as expected for Vinho Verde.  The decomposed granite soil is well suited to the Avesso grape more so than Alvarinho here.  Also grown, and doing well, are Arinto and Loureiro. Cazas Novas crafts more serious wines than the traditional light and spritzy quaffers.  These wines have a bit more presence in the mouth.

Ascheri Nebbiolo

The Giacomo Ascheri Cellars originated in La Morra: in the early 19th century, the first vines were planted in that area, where a place called “Ascheri” still exists, and the first wines were produced. At that time in the Langhe, vine-growing and wine-making were still primitive and rudimental: wines were mostly sold in demijohns and they traveled for several days before reaching the selling points. However, a reliable account dating back to that period and concerning the “Ascheri” vine cultivation method ( then considered modern for its technical innovations ) clearly shows how, since its very beginning, the Ascheri Winery stood out for its commitment and innovative methods.

In 1880 the Ascheri winery was moved from La Morra to Bra, important town for the distribution of Barolo, where it is still situated nowadays.  The Aschieri estate has expanded to and now includes the original La Morra Vineyards (mainly producing grapes for Barolo, Barbera d’Alba and Dolcetto d’Alba) the estates of Serralunga d’Alba, Verduno and Bra.

Villa Franciacorta Diamant

Villa Franciacorta’s story began in 1960, with Alessandro Bianchi’s purchase of one of the most famed areas of all Franciacorta, the hamlet of Villa, in the town of Monticelli Brusati, in Brescia, Lombardy.  The soil here is composed of sedimentary clay and stratified marl with fossil-rich rocks that bear witness to the primordial presence of the sea. This is not, therefore, land of glacial origin that was carried here by rivers when the glaciers melted, as is true for much of the land in Franciacorta, but rather virgin soil that is rich in natural substances. The clays and minerals contained herein derive from marine fossils, thus explaining the aromatic richness, the enhanced sapidity and refined taste of the wines produced in this hamlet over four centuries, as well as their unmistakable bouquet. The Bianchi family’s philosophy of life, which runs through every choice of the production chain, can be clearly evinced from the use of organic and natural substances in vineyard management, controlled revegetation and green manure, short pruning systems and an overall respect for the land and care of the environment.

Longview The Piece Shiraz

Longview Estates falls within Adelaide Hill’s cool-climate sites. Most of the rainfall occurs during the winter months, while the summers are warm and dry while the vineyards are cooled by the winds coming off of Lake Alexandrina. These are ideal conditions for the development of flavours, aromatics, depth and structure in the grapes.

Longview’s “Piece Project” offers a full sensory experience of wine, food, art, dance and music. Guests are invited to the vineyard to witness four street artists at work as they each create a piece to be featured on the label of “The Piece Shiraz”.

Bottega Chocolate and Grappa

This is a creamy liqueur, pleasantly  sweet and with a moderate alcohol content, characterized by  an intense aroma of Gianduia chocolate. This was created in Piedmont, in 1806, when the high  cost of cocoa inspired local pastry chefs to replace part of it with toasted  grounded nuts. This gave way to  an elegant and intense chocolate,  with a typical bouquet of cocoa and nuts. These hints are also present in Gianduia Bottega, a cream with a velvety sweetness which satisfies  even the most demanding palates. With a final touch of grappa,  Gianduia Bottega gains a particular aromaticity, making it unique and  unmistakable.
