2 Crows Brewing Co. is the brainchild of husband and wife duo Mark and Kelly Huizink and brewer Jeremy Taylor. They brew modern beers with care and focus on quality. Their aim is to get people thinking about craftsmanship, where their beer is coming from and the various characteristics that make beer great.

Tasting Notes

Festbier is less intense and less richly toasted than a Märzen, and more rich/heavy in body than a Helles, with more hop flavor and higher alcohol.

Moderate malty richness, with an emphasis on toasty-doughy aromatics and an impression of sweetness. Floral, herbal, and spicy German-style hops balanced out the malt aromas. The flavour is malty with a lightly toasty, bread dough quality and an impression of soft sweetness. Medium-low bitterness, definitely malty in the balance. Well-attenuated and crisp, but not dry. Clean lager fermentation character that lets the bitterness be supportive, but still yields a malty, flavorful finish.

Method

The German Festbier is often brewed in the cool Fall months, usually around the time of Oktoberfest. It is a smooth, clean, pale German lager with a moderately strong malty flavor and a light hop character. Perfectly balances strength and drinkability, with a palate and finish that encourages drinking. Showcases elegant German malt flavors without becoming too heavy or filling. 2 Crows pulled out all the stops for their version; a low oxygen mash, adjusted mash and boil pH with house made sauergut, triple decocted, judiciously hopped with primo Perle hops, coolshipped for wort clarification, fermented extra low and slow, krausened and 100% naturally carbonated, and lagered for over 2 months.
