Amastuola is situated on a plateau, 210 meters above sea level, near Crispiano in the Puglia region of Southwest Italy. Its surrounded by about 170 ha of land, mostly planted in vineyards with olive trees and stone walls. The farm itself has been an agricultural center since the fifteenth century, as evidenced by decades of archaeological investigations carried out on its land. The vineyards benefit from a microclimate that favours organic farming and the precious minerals and nutrients of the terroir give the wines a very special aroma. The vineyard was designed by Fernando Caruncho, a landscape architect. Amastuola wine is 100% EU Certified Organic from 2012.

Tasting Notes

Medium intensity aromas of  Golden Delicious apples, citrus peel and hawthorn.  Tree fruit and citrus on the palate, white flowers and minerality. Medium acidity and a clean crisp and dry finish.  This wine would make a nice aperitif with olives and salt cured fish, seafood pastas, chicken salad or soft creamy cheeses.

Method

The grapes are harvested during the night and are then de-stemmed and sent via stainless steel pipeline to a vacuum soft press. The must is transferred to 300Hl tanks, where fermentation takes place. Ageing occurs in medium-sized tanks equipped with micro-oxygenation and temperature control devices.

Not much on the nose. Definitely heavy citrus on the palate. It’s fine for a Tuesday night. But nothing special to break out for guests.
