Benjamin Bridge vineyards are located in the heart of the Gaspereau Valley on the Bay of Fundy, where the cool climate bears an uncanny affinity with the Champagne region of France. The estate makes a range of wines; sparkling, white, red, rose, dry and sweet. Though the focus is on making world-class Méthode Classique sparkling wines that have been compared in tastings to Champagne. The hand crafted wines of Benjamin Bridge have helped raise the profile of the Nova Scotian wine industry.

Tasting Notes

In the glass, a light golden colour with a brilliant emerald hue. On the nose, hints of lime and sea breeze set the stage for zesty citrus undertones. On the palate, this Tidal Bay is full of character and purity, with a wide variety of meadow botanicals lifted by citrus and
elderflower aromas. The lengthy finish prolongs the wine’s tension and textural complexity.

Method

To earn the Tidal Bay designation, all wines must follow a strict set of technical standards that are enforced throughout the winemaking process- from growing to bottling and more.  These standards were created by a committee of winemakers, sommeliers and wine experts.

In the ever-shifting landscape of today’s climatic uncertainties, grape growing, much like other agricultural pursuits, has faced its share of unprecedented challenges. Not exclusively a heartache of our tidal vineyards nested alongside the Bay of Fundy, many wine regions across Canada and around the world have been impacted by extreme weather events in recent years.  In early 2023, an intense deep freeze reduced yields significantly. And as if that wasn’t enough, the growing season to follow faced additional hurdles with torrential rains, pushing  the site’s natural drainage to its limits. Some parcels were harvested earlier than usual to combat excess humidity, infusing the wines with a zest and brightness reminiscent of early Nova Scotia wines. Against all odds, the first three weeks of  October provided an unexpected reprieve in the form of a dry spell, featuring warm, precipitation-free weather that made up for delays in ripening. Those who exercised the patience and foresight to wait for these highly favourable conditions were rewarded with surprising phenolic maturity, further intensified by the overall reduction in yields. The outcome is a remarkable Tidal Bay, stylistically echoing the essence of the appellation, capturing the resilience ingrained the land and community.

The 2023 is a blend of 71% l’Acadie Blanc, 15% Frontenac Blanc, 5% Osceola Muscat, 3% Vidal, 3% Geisenheim, NY Muscat 3%.
