Lightfoot & Wolfville Gamay (750ml)
This family-owned winery in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley is dedicated to certified organic and biodynamic agriculture alongside Old World winemaking techniques.
Pale-cherry in the glass with intense, amplified fruit notes on the nose – tart strawberry, dusty cranberry – with dried violet, brown spice and graphite notes. A restrained and well-balanced light red with fine, silky tannins and bright, cold fruit character.
This is a light red that is delightfully refreshing when served slightly chilled, especially alongside tuna tartare, turkey dinner or light picnic fare.
An exciting new addition to the Lightfoot & Wolfville Terroir Series; a collection of single-varietal wines with a strong sense of place and tidal influence. The 2020 growing season was exceptionally warm and dry, allowing for unprecedented flavour development in the Gamay Noir grapes grown on a 1-acre parcel at Lightfoot & Wolfville’s Oak Island Vineyard.
Gamay Noir grapes were hand-harvested on the 16th of October – 30% were crushed and destemmed and 70% were left whole-cluster for indigenous primary fermentation. Following pressing, at the beginning of November, 40% of the cuvée was barrelled down to two neutral French oak barriques and 60% went to stainless steel for three months aging and full malolactic conversion before both components were blended together and bottled without any filtration.
