Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers is owned and operated by one of Scotland’s oldest and most prominent whisky families, Jamie and Brian Morrison. This is a single malt Scotch whisky from an undisclosed distillery on the legendary isle of Islay, released by the Morrison family – a name which has been in the Scotch whisky sphere for many, many moons now.
Tasting Notes
Classic Islay malt with smoky and maritime notes, peat and sweet vanilla from maturation in American oak casks. Any lover of Islay single malt Scotch will love this. The nose shows hay, soil, ripe and hint of sea breeze. The palate, black pepper, earth, peat smoke which is softly balanced by notes of sweet vanilla. Smoky oak cinders on the finish.
Method
This particular expression, named Mac-Talla Terra (Mac-Talla means “echo” in Scottish Gaelic, while Terra relates to earth), was aged in American oak casks, and offers up plenty of richly smoky peat notes.
Our Thoughts
Saltwater taffy, fresh oak, salted caramel, pear, and green apple; there’s a freshness to the nose. Expect bright, fresh green apple as soon as it hits your tongue and the smoke comes through more on the palate, in a mouth coating but nicely balanced kind of way; ripe green pear lingers long into the finish. This is a well crafted scotch, great for our Islay lovers.
Okay, now make it romantic. You’ve gone for a dip in the cold Atlantic ocean, you come out and wrap yourself in a big ol beach towel and meander up the sand to where you and your friends have a bonfire built and burning. You sit down all toasty roasty warm and pass around green apple slices that are drizzled in caramel.
