Strathearn distillery was founded in 2013 by Tony Reeman-Clark. A craft distillery, their aim was to create a whisky of immense flavour. Using heirloom barley they were not concerned with yield, but rather, flavour. Experimenting with different oak barrels for maturation (and challenging the SWA!) Strathearn was taken over by Douglas Laing Co. in 2019. The tradition of using speciality malts is still employed to ensure the quality and unique flavour profile lives on. With their first Single Malt release at the end of 2023, we are happy to welcome Strathearn Single Malt into the market.
Tasting Notes
From the distillery: Nose: Anticipate a rich malted barley depth with gentle oak
Palate: Mouth-coating and syrupy influences of honey and buttercream with baking spice and dried apricots
Finish: Long, warming finish of home baking and buttery oat biscuits
Method
Maris Otter barley sets Strathearn apart from the others. A two row barley, typically used in beer production, the yield is small but the flavour is mighty. Crafting a scotch with a creamy mouthfeel and rich, malty notes. Aged in ex-bourbon, virgin oak and ex-sherry barrel oak. Non-chill filtered, no added colouring and bottled at 50%.
