Zenato is a historic and well respected name in Northern Italy’s Veneto region. Sergio Zenato started the winery in 1960 and today the family tradition in winemaking is carried on by his children Alberto and Nadia. The estate produces a range of white and red wines.

Tasting Notes

Dry white wine produced from grapes selected in the heart of the production area of Bianco di Custoza, Verona. It is a blend of 40% Garganega, 30% Chardonnay, 20% Tocai, 10% Cortese. Light and fresh style white wine that is well suited to aperitifs, appetizers and delicate fish dishes.

Method

Bianco di Custoza (or simply Custoza), is a DOC classified white from the Veneto region of northeastern Italy. The wine might be seen as the white equivalent of red Bardolino as the two DOCs’ production areas overlap significantly.  70 % of the wine must be made up of Cortese, Friulano, Garganega and/or Trebbiano Toscano or which no one grape can exceed 45% of the blend.  Up to 30% of the wine may consist of Chardonnay, Malvasia, Pinot Bianco, Manzoni Bianco or Welschriesling.

Zenato’s Bianco di Custoza is made via a soft pressing of the grapes which are then fermented in stainless steel.

Great value. This white wine comes from the same region (Bianco di Custoza) as a favourite red of mine; Corte Gardoni “Le Fontane” Bardolino. It also shares two grapes, Garganega and Cortese, with Gardoni’s own Bianco di Custoza which I also enjoy. Light on acidity and fruit, fresh, oh so slightly of dry. Seems to have a tiny hint of honey. I am drinking it with manchego (hard, slightly salty cheese) and a variety of olives. Beautiful!
