Inside a barn on the distillery property, the words “October 18 1939 Storm” were found handwritten in pencil on one of the old beams. Officially recorded in the history books as Hurricane #5, the storm was so fierce that the townsfolk had to make record of it in this barn—a barn so well built, it still stands today. The main label is made from birch as a way to connect the the bottle to the village of River John’s past. This village was known in the 19th century for making some of the finest ships in the world.
Tasting Notes
The whisky is a light amber colour. Aromas of caramel, honey & baking spices (cardamom, ginger and cloves). Flavours of butterscotch, rye spice and hints of vanilla with a creamy easy finish.
Method
Grains are locally sourced from the distillery’s River John property. Each season brings new, subtle differences to the crop, meaning that each release will have a subtle difference in flavour profile.

Quite possibly the best tasting and smoothest whiskey I’ve ever had. Just wish they could get it into New Brunswick…

Friends gifted a bottle to me. Fantastic stuff. I have enjoyed a number of different ryes over my 40+ yrs of spirit indulging. I can safely says that the Hurricane 5 is now my favourite. Almost smooth enough to OVER indulge…but I don’t think that’s possible. I will definitely be sharing my new find with, out of province, friends over the CHRISTmas holiday season. Cheers
