The Champagne house of Andre Clouet was established in 1741 in Bouzy within La Montagne de Reims territory. Even before this, the ancestral branch of the Clouet family were well known as the official printers of the King of France, their name was Seneuze. There is a document dating back to 1680 which is a request for a deed for the purchase of land in Champagne. Today, Clouet farms about 20 acres of vines in this area that is the most famous Grand Cru village in Champagne for Pinot Noir. The house of Clouet is a grower/producer house crafting limited amounts of a few different cuvées made exclusively from Pinot Noir.
Tasting Notes
Pronounced aromas of brioche, preserved peaches and white flowers. The palate is full and richly textured, there is lots of expansive fruit and sweet spices showing deep concentration, viscosity, and intense minerality. The finish is long and satisfying. Enjoy with appetizers, fish, sushi, charcuterie or fine cheese.
Method
Once upon a time, a few precious bottles were hidden away in a small cellar for more than 80 years. By a stroke of luck they were found and became the inspiration for a champagne tribute to the Golden Age the Clouet house calls “One day in 1911”. Those found bottles were carefully packed with straw, protected in their wooden cases, each bottle was beautifully dressed with a gold foil collar, painstakingly applied by hand. Belle Époque graphic design on the labels takes one back to the Golden Age of France, a time of prosperity, optimism and creative freedom when the arts began to flourish. The House of André Clouet invites you to enjoy « One day in 1911 » the revival of a rediscovered gem from one of the best vineyards in the world. Working with the finest craftsmen, we bring you the magical renaissance of champagne production from the 1900s.
Winemaker Jean-Francois Clouet crafts the 1911 Champagne by blending older reserve wines. Only 1911 bottles of this Grand Cru Champagne are made each year and every bottle is numbered by hand. It spends more than 6 years aging on its lees before its disgorgement and has a low 6 grams/liter of dosage.

A big wine experience, nothing subtle here. From the deep gold colour with prominent orange hue to a vibrant array of flavours – marzipan, fresh walnuts, warm bakery tones … so many to find. The acidity is perfect with a smooth lingering finish. The second and third glass is the sweet spot. My wife thought it was over priced cider … but what does she know. A unique pinot noir experience that grows on you. Thx Kathryn!
