Domaine Haut Marin is aptly named as it resides on land that was covered by the sea over 23 million years ago.  Today, what remains is an ancient seabed with fossils of marine life that once existed.  Located in the heart of Bas-Armagnac on Via Podensis, trodden over the centuries by pilgrims waking the French route towards Santiago di Compostella in Galicia, Spain.

The beautiful Gascon domaine has 180 hectares of vines planted on geologically complex soil of marine sediment, clay-limestone, shallow gravel.  This type of soil contributes to wines that are extremely pure and fresh.

Tasting Notes

This is a fresh, fruit forward and dry red wine.  Aromas of ripe red and black fruit such as cherry, blackberry and plums with underlying spice notes.  The palate is medium bodied, with pleasing fruit flavors that echo the aromas, juicy acidity and soft ripe tannins.  This is the a great red wine option if you aren’t sure what’s going to be on the menu or who’s going to be at the table; it can easily pair with a selection of foods and will appeal to a range of palates.

Method

A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot from on clay limestone soils.  The grapes macerate for a period of time before a cool  fermentation and pressing in an oxygen free environment to ensure maximum freshness.  The wine ages for a period on the fine lies and does not undergo any sulfur additions during this aging period.
