The Geantet-Pansiot Estate was founded in 1954 by Edmond Geantet and Bernadette Pansiot. It started out as a small 3 hectare parcel of vineyards. After having expanded the domain by gradually buying other vines, Edmond’s son Vincent joined the estate in 1977. Vincent Geantet is one of the most competent winemakers in Gevrey-Chambertin today.
Gevrey-Chambertin is a French wine commune, located 15km south of Dijon in the department of the Cote d’Or and the region of Burgundy. It is the most northerly of the well-known communes in Burgundy and the wines are typically well-structured. Domaine Geantet farms about 12 hectares of vineyards today in various appellations. Vincent’s son Fabien has since joined the team.
Tasting Notes
There is a lot of bright fruit on the nose and palate; raspberry and black cherry, underbrush, button mushroom and light spice. The mouthfeel is suave with juicy aicidy and fine grained tannins, sweet fruit, savory elements and well appointed oak make for a harmonious and easy drinking red Burgundy. This would easily compliment poultry, rabbit or duck dishes as well as mushroom risotto or soft bloomy cheeses.
Method
Fixin is an appellation in northern Burgundy’s Cote de Nuits area. Most of the wines made here are red, from Pinot Noir. Up until the end of the 17th century, the wines of Fixin were more highly regarded than those of Gevrey which today seems to be more well known. The vineyards are protected from hail that often plagues the region by forested windbreaks on the western ridgeline.
